About the event

Vermont’s landscapes are dotted with historic and compact village and town centers, surrounded by rural countryside. Our core statewide planning goal is to guide development to maintain those patterns.

  • How well are the Vermont State Designation Programs supporting these historic land use patterns, planning and sustainability practices on the ground?
  • How well do they align with local, regional, and state goals, plans, maps and policies?
  • What land use, smart growth, and conservation planning challenges are emerging for the next 25 years?
  • How might we design the next round of programs to meet those challenges? What goals, outcomes, and benefits should we prioritize?

Join Designation 2050, the Vermont Natural Resources Council, and Vermont Planners Association for a virtual conversation. We’ll  explore how the Designation Programs are working now, and how we might reinvent them to be more effective.

The Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) is a statewide environmental non-profit organization. A key part of its mission is to reduce the environmental impacts of development by promoting compact, walkable communities surrounded by farm, forest, and natural areas.

Vermont Planners Association (VPA), a statewide is non-profit, membership-based organization of professional and citizen planners, landscape architects, engineers, housing and economic development specialists, developers and others who support good planning.
