About the event

From Main Street shops to cutting-edge industries, businesses shape our economy, our cities and towns, and our lives. But what do Vermont's businesses and industries need to grow, evolve and thrive? Join us to discuss your perspective on business needs, land use, and growth—from housing and inclusion to workforce and permitting— and how Vermont's designation programs can play a stronger role in supporting them.

  • What’s working for Vermont businesses, industries and economies right now? Where are there opportunities ahead?
  • What are the biggest challenges and pain points? What do they need to grow and succeed now, and what’s coming in the next 25 years?
  • How well are the Vermont State Designation Programs currently supporting business and industry? What impacts are they having and where are they falling short?
  • What improvements or reforms would make them more impactful?

Join Designation 2050 and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce for a virtual conversation. We’ll  explore the business perspective on Vermont’s designation programs and ideas for their future.

The Vermont Chamber of Commerce is on a mission: to help our members grow their businesses and the Vermont economy. As the largest statewide business organization, the Vermont Chamber represents all industries and sectors, from tourism, manufacturing, and retail to health care, construction, and technology. Every signature networking event organized, every policy advocated, and every unique marketing opportunity created, is designed to make Vermont a better, more vibrant place to live, work, start a business, and play.

Designation 2050 is a statewide project to evaluate, reimagine, and redesign Vermont’s statewide designation programs for the next 25 years.  Authorized by the Vermont Legislature, it will develop recommendations for making the programs more impactful, more accessible to diverse communities, and simpler to manage and use.

Vermont's State Designation Programs are managed by the Vermont Department of Housing & Community Development. The project consulting team is led by Smart Growth America, with community engagement by Community Workshop. More info: >
